The thesis, in one sentence

The largest owner of very-large-gas-carriers is at the best point in its history on charter rates and leverage, but real cash flow to shareholders is well below the headline figure once normalized, and a large newbuild orderbook due through the decade threatens future rates.

Written for this site in plain English, without figures. The arithmetic is in the full report.

Key risks

  • Real cash flow to shareholders is well below the headline figure
  • A large newbuild orderbook threatens today's tight freight market
  • Charter rates are near a cyclical high, not a sustainable level

What would change the verdict

  • The price-to-book multiple falls to a cheaper level
  • Operating margin holds at current elevated levels for four straight quarters
  • Days sales outstanding rise for two consecutive quarters
  • Share count rises through new issuance

Read it yourself

Step five of the method is the reader's: open the latest annual or quarterly report and read it before acting on anything here. A score is a summary, and a summary is not understanding.

Chapter one: Executive summary

Deep-value analysis — BW LPG Limited (BWLP), September 13, 2026

Reference price: … (NYSE, 09/12/2026) · NOK 233.80 (OSE, 09/11/2026) · Market cap:Shares: 151.81 mil. (159.282 mil. issued − 7.467 mil. treasury, FY2025 20-F Item 7.A) Currency: reporting USD / price USD — no conversion needed, the FCF bridge is direct Primary sources: FY2025 20-F (filed 03/31/2026), Q2/H1 2026 interim financial report (Exhibit 99.2 to the 6-K of 08/28/2026), the Q2 2026 press release (Exhibit 99.1), the Q2 2026 presentation (Exhibit 99.3), data pack data-pack-BWLP-20260913.md, simulation mc-BWLP-20260913.json.

Process note: the SEC file downloaded by edgar_10k_downloader.py stops at fiscal year 2025's 6-Ks; the Q2 2026 report — this analysis's decisive document — was downloaded separately from EDGAR (accession 0001104659-26-102581) and converted locally into SEC-Filings/BWLP/BWLP_Q2-2026_INTERIM.txt. Without it, the analysis would have rested on figures nine months stale, in a year when quarterly results tripled.

Executive summary

BW LPG is the world's largest VLGC shipowner — 28 vessels 100% owned (average age 8.5 years at 12/31/2025), 8 vessels through its Indian subsidiary BW LPG India, plus 7 chartered-in and 11 operated for third parties, totaling 54 controlled or operated units at end-2025, of which 22 have dual-fuel LPG propulsion. Alongside the fleet, the group owns a physical LPG trading desk (BW Product Services, "PS"), bought and expanded since 2019, running … billion of cargo a year, representing 71% of accounting revenue but less than a fifth of economic value.

The thesis, in one sentence: the business is real and at the best moment in its history, but the … price no longer requires the peak to hold — it requires it to be the new normal, and all five valuation models, plus 20,000 Monte Carlo scenarios, say it isn't.

2026 is a dateable anomaly. The Middle East war closed the Strait of Hormuz, VLGC-carried LPG exports from the Gulf fell 46% YoY in H1 2026, and the lost volumes were replaced by American cargo — a route three times longer in ton-miles. On top of that came the Panama drought, pushing vessels around the Cape of Good Hope. The result: the spot rate rose to ~…/day in May 2026 (BLPG1), the year-to-date average is ~…/day, and BW LPG reported a Q2 2026 TCE of …/day available against an all-in cash breakeven of …/day. Q3 is already fixed: 92% of days at ~…/day. Profit attributable to shareholders was … in Q2 and … in H1 2026, versus … total PAT in H1 2025.

The FCF bridge says something the income statement doesn't. Over the last four quarters (H2 2025 + H1 2026), CFO was … and capex only … — so "simple FCF" …, a yield of …% at today's price. But BW LPG reports under IFRS: interest paid (…), financing fees (…) and lease principal (…) sit in financing, not operating, and dividends to BW LPG India's minorities (…) leave before the money reaches the NYSE shareholder. Real FCFE: …, i.e. …/share and a yield of 12.0% — a 37% divergence from the simple figure, and 107% if you look at fiscal 2025 in isolation. The external check confirms 12% is the correct figure, not …%: the actual dividend yield paid is 10.3%, and the company distributes ~86% of FCFE.

Yet a 12% flow yield doesn't make the stock cheap, since that flow is earned at …/day in a war year. Normalized to …/day — exactly the last five years' average, a period that already included two boom years — owner earnings fall to (…/share). On this basis:

Model Intrinsic value MOS vs …
Bear FCFE DCF (TCE …/day, full fleet renewal) 8.16
Base FCFE DCF (mid-cycle TCE …/day) 17.33
Bull FCFE DCF (persistent TCE …/day) 27.73
Greenwald EPV (normalized EBIT − economic depreciation) 11.98
Fleet NAV (28 vessels × … + 8 × …) 18.37

Monte Carlo over 20,000 scenarios, with the same assumptions and dispersions (OE ±25% lognormal, g1 σ=3pp, r σ=100bp, gt σ=50bp), gives a median intrinsic value of and a …% probability the stock is undervalued at today's price. The probability of a margin of safety above 30% — the minimum threshold for a deep-value position — is 2.3%.

Verdict: AVOID AT THE CURRENT PRICE. It isn't a short and it isn't a poor-quality company: the balance sheet is the best in its history (net leverage 23.5%, liquidity …, the first large maturity not until 2030), management made the best acquisition in the LPG sector in the last decade (Avance Gas, 2024), and the 10.3% dividend is covered by real flow. It's a price and cycle-timing problem. The orderbook of 155-157 VLGCs, 35… of the existing 437-vessel fleet, with deliveries staggered through Q4 2030 and 38 vessels ordered in Q2 2026 alone (versus 10 in all of 2025), is the counter that starts running when rates are at the peak. The consensus target price of the 4 analysts MarketScreener tracks is … — practically today's price; nobody on the sell side sees a discount, and I see a premium.

Re-entry point: below …/share (MOS ~ … on the base model), or at any price if BW LPG's fleet trades below 0.9× NAV at a moment of depressed rates. Signal to watch: the Q3 2026 report on November 23, and, more importantly, the first quarter in which the time-charter cover re-fixes below …/day.
